During his Western North Regional Campaign tour on May 3, 2024, Dr Bawumia announced that his government will prioritise the award of scholarships to all persons with disabilities to enable them continue with their education at the tertiary level.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party said, given the opportunity, he will dedicate some of the money from the scholarship Secretariat and GETFUND to provide free tertiary education, both tuition and accommodation, to all persons with disability who will make it to the tertiary level.

Reacting to this statement, Prof. G.K.T Oduro urged the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana to give credit to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for 'stealing' the policy from the NDC 2020 Manifesto.

According to the Professor of Educational Leadership at the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) at the University of Cape Coast, the NDC, after a stakeholder consultation and engagement prior to the 2020 elections, carefully crafted a policy which includes the provision of free tertiary education for persons with disabilities.

“During electioneering year, some political parties are usually in the habit of duplicating the original idea or policies of other political parties and making it their own. Although this practice is totally not out of place, one must learn to give credit to the originators,” he added.

Prof. Oduro further hinted that these and many other outstanding policies will soon be outdoored in the 2024 NDC Manifesto.
